For so many years the perception of tourists about Somalia’s beautiful beaches was that there’s merely sand and sea and nothing more to offer. As far off from reality as that sounds it had been the case for the last twenty eight years

This false perception about Somalia is being turned on it’s head as more diaspora come home to Somalia from their adopted homelands in europe the middle east, the Americas and Australia and sharing on social media their wonderful experiences in Somalia.

On any given day at Liido beach you can observe the hundreds of people with their canon cameras posing for pictures on top of the beach view hotel Liido, or taking a picture while enjoying a lobster meal at Liido seafood restaurant or taking a ride on the boats lined up on the beach adorned with the Somali flag.

The Somali diaspora has unintendedly turned travel journalists and has completely debunked the false narative that Somalia offers no more than “sand and sea”.

Somalia a country that boasts more beaches than any other country on the continent definitely offers more, Mogadishu’s Liido beach is lined with restaurants serving the best seafood on the planet, it has numerous shisha bars with big screen tv projectors streaming live football matches from around the globe.

For those who want to enjoy the sheer untouched beauty of Somalia can enjoy a cup of tea at one of the numerous tea houses lined at Liido beach and enjoy the days of the sunshine while observing the stunning rock formations and shipwrecks of the past of this beautiful city of Mogadishu the “eternal pearl of the indian ocean”.

As augmented reality becones shareable reality, the Somali diaspora are sharing their expriences in Somalia on social media platforms the likes of Facebook, Snapchat, Apple and Google which in turned has completely changed the perceptions of people who would otherwise not consider Somalia as their next destination on their travel plans.

Foreign tourists and even more of the diaspora are flocking to Somalia in huge numbers, it’s not an uncommon sight to see tourists of europeans descent, Turks, Arabs and Americans swimming at Liido beach these days and it’s projected by 2021 the tourism sector in Somalia to grow by three hundred percent, and add millions of dollars to the economy
